News

In September 2015, Millikin University revealed plans for a new University Commons at Staley Library!  But how will students, faculty and staff still have access to Staley Library services and materials during construction, set to begin in spring 2016?

Stay tuned for the latest information on Staley Library's move to New Hall 3 on Wood Street and the construction of the new University Commons at Staley Library!

News:

August 15, 2017: Staley Library is now open for business in the University Commons on W. Main St.  Regular semester hours will begin on Monday, August 21st.  Check out our hours page for more details.

Monday, August 14, 2017: The library will be closed today as our offices are being moved into the University Commons, where we will be open for business starting Tuesday, August 15.

August 11, 2017: Today is our last day in our temporary location in New Hall 3 on Wood St.  We will be moving into the University Commons next Monday.

July 26, 2017: The move of library collections was completed today!  However, we are still operating out of New Hall 3 for the next several weeks. Please continue to pick up any library requests from NH3 until informed otherwise. We will be closed for business on Monday, August 7 while our office materials are being moved.

July 12, 2017: Movers arrived today to begin moving our collections that are currently in storage to the University Commons.  During the move (expected to last until the end of this month), the item request process for both Millikin and I-Share patrons will be slowed somewhat as some things may be easily accessible, while others are not.  We will do our best to retrieve what we can as quickly as we can, but we ask for your patience during this time.

May 17, 2017: Things are still on schedule for the University Commons to open this fall 2017.  Today we see workers laying brick, working on the roof, and doing some landscape work on the north and east sides of the building.

April 21, 2017:  Staley Library is now taking applications from work study students to begin working in the new University Commons next fall 2017 semester.  We are looking to hire multiple students, as we have many senior student workers graduating this semester, and will be expanding our hours in the fall.  Check out, and apply for our job posting on the Career Center's Big Blue Jobs online site: http://www.collegecentral.com/millikin/

January 27, 2017:  It looks like framing for the roof on the addition is going in today, as is some of the flooring on its upper floors.

August 15, 2016:  The project is on schedule to open approximately a year from now in fall 2017. Construction is ongoing, and safety fencing has grown somewhat over the summer to encompass areas near the building site, so please allow some extra time for crossing campus and take a look at the campus parking map to see what areas are still available for parking now that lot M8 is closed.  Keep an eye out for photos of the construction process on our Facebook page!

August 13, 2016: The Decatur Herald & Review has posted photos of the University Commons construction.

March 2, 2016:  The M8 parking lot (aka Staley or Shilling lot) is now closed and the safety fence is up.  Please allow extra time for travel across campus as the fencing blocks many typical footpaths across the center of the Millikin campus.

February 28, 2016: Starting Monday, Feb. 29, the former Staley parking (M8) lot will be closed for the duration of the University Commons building project. A safety fence will also be erected around the building site, which will redirect foot traffic in that part of campus.

February 24, 2016: We will not be making trips to off-site storage today due to the weather and poor road conditions.

February 1, 2016: The collection move is finished and the majority of our materials are now in our off-site storage.

January 27, 2016: The collection move continues! At this point the majority of the circulating collection is located in our off-site storage facility, but the move will continue through the beginning of next week. We are making three trips a day to storage to retrieve your book requests, so the turnaround time should be relatively short.

January 22, 2016: Some items are being loaded onto shelves in our New Hall 3 location today. Collections housed in the building will be current year periodicals, newspapers, new books, leisure books, and DVDs/videos.

January 19, 2016: Hours this week are Tues.-Thurs. 8am-6pm, Friday, 8am-5pm. Our regular academic year hours start on Monday, January 25th. Printers are now working. Study rooms are available. Our overnight book return has not yet moved. If you have after-hours returns, please return them to the book return at the old Staley Library location.

January 18, 2016: Movers began transferring books and shelving to our off-site storage facility today. For photos, see our Facebook page.

January 14, 2016: We are open for business in New Hall 3. Hours today are 8am-6pm. Things are still a bit messy, but if you have items to pick up, we can check them out to you. Public computers are also available, as are the copy machine, scanner, and study rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor. We are still working on access to the public printers. Please call our main number if you have questions!  217-424-6214.

January 11, 2016: Our move is underway!  Offices, the main service area (circulation), and the study rooms are being put together.  If you need to contact us, please use email.

January 7, 2016: Staley Library will be closed from Friday, January 8 through Wednesday, January 13 due to our move to New Hall 3. We will be open in our new location on Thursday, January 14. We hope you will bear with us as we do our best to make the transition as smooth as possible.
