To narrow your results use the Refine Your Results options on the left side of the page. You can change the default Sort by from Relevance to Date-newest or Title, or you can limit by Availability or Resource Type (e.g., books or articles), Staley Library Location (location in the library), Creation Date, or Language.
You can apply as many filters as you like. Filters can be removed individually by clicking the X next to the filter name. All filters can be removed by selecting "Reset filters." You can also retain filters across searches (during your searching session) using the "Remember all filters" option.
You may find it helpful to personalize your results in order to narrow your searches to materials that are of more interest to you. Select the Narrow by discipline option under the search box and select up to 5 disciples to use to narrow your search. If you are logged in to Millikin Library Discovery, your preferences will be retained across searching sessions and you can toggle the narrow by discipline option on and off.
When you use the Search Starter search, for certain topics you may see an "About the Topic" box at the top of the page. This link will take you directly to an online reference resource on the topic. It's a great way to start your research!
Depending on where you have decided to search, you will see a mix of different types of resources: books, articles, videos, ebooks, music scores, etc. The type of resource will be indicated by the icon (or a picture of the cover) and a description above the title. Many of the items will be available electronically. Look for an Available Online link.
Materials that are available at Staley Library will show as Available with the location or will say Not available if they are already checked out or otherwise unavailable.
If you are searching "All I-Share Libraries," you will see Check for available services under the item's information. Click the link to see if it is available from an I-Share library.
When viewing an article or eBook in Millikin Library Discovery, you may see "Related reading" on the right side of the page. Use these links to find other materials on your topic.
For articles and books that are available online, once you have clicked on the item's title, look for a link to the database or ebook provider under the View Online heading. Clicking on the name will open a new tab or window and will take you directly to the article or book.
For articles that are not available online, look for a Request through Interlibrary Loan link. This link will take you to our interlibrary loan service ILLiad where you can request the article. See our Interlibrary Loan guide (link below) for more information on using ILLiad.
