News and guides to assist patrons during Staley Library's move to a transitional space during the construction of Millikin's new University Commons at Staley Library.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is happening to the library during the construction of the University Commons at Staley Library?

The library moved to New Hall 3 in early January 2016. For information on other services formerly housed in the library, such as the Writing Center, Math Center, and computer labs, please see below.

Where is New Hall 3?

New Hall 3 is located one street south of W. Main St. at 1212 W. Wood St. Parking is to the south and west of the building and can be accessed from Wood Street (New Hall 3 is labeled "6" on the campus parking map).

What will the library's hours be?

Millikin students, faculty, and staff may access the library in New Hall 3 any time that it is open, although after 5pm and on Saturdays and Sundays it will be necessary to use a valid Millikin ID to enter the building via swipe access. Members of the public (including students from other I-Share libraries) may access the library after 5pm, but must use the outside phone to call for entry and will be asked to sign in at the front desk after showing a current photo ID.

What types of library spaces, equipment, and services will be available in New Hall 3 on Wood St. (Staley Library's temporary location)? Are there still spaces to study and meet with classmates to work on projects?

The main floor provides computers, printers, scanners, a copy machine, several study rooms, and the library's circulation and reserves desk. The library's newspapers and new books are also be housed on the first floor. Second floor provides a mix of group and individual study spaces, our group collaboration station, A-V/DVD collection and viewing/listening equipment, current periodicals, and leisure book collection. Third floor includes group and individual study spaces.

Where do I pick up books/CDs/DVDs/scores I ordered through I-Share/the online catalog from Millikin's off-site storage?

Books ordered for pick-up through I-Share/the online catalog from our off-site storage or from another I-Share library (interlibrary loan) will be waiting for you at the circulation/reserves desk on the main floor. Please present your Millikin ID when picking up materials.

Can I still use the library's reference collection?

Yes, though because the reference books had to be placed in off-site storage, you will need to request them for delivery as you would other materials in storage. The process for requesting a reference book for delivery is the same. Millikin students, faculty, and staff may request and check out reference materials. We do not loan them to community patrons or through interlibrary loan.

I already have an I-Share account, do I need to create another account to request Millikin/local items for pick-up?

No. If you already have an I-Share account, please use that same account to request Millikin items for pick up.

Where are the Staley Library faculty and staff offices in New Hall 3?

Our staff page will be updated with everyone's office number in New Hall 3. Telephone numbers and email address have remained the same.

Where is the Writing Center?

The Writing Center has moved to the former OSO room in Lower Richards Treat University Center (LRTUC). The process for making an appointment with the Writing Center is the same- use the Writing Center button in myMillikin (in the Academics menu).

Where is the Math Center?

The Math Center has moved to Shilling 308.

Where is the Office for Student Success?

The Office for Student Success has moved to Shilling 204.

Where is the Honors Lounge?

Where is the MAC lab?

When will the new University Commons at Staley Library open?

The new building is slated to open at the beginning of the fall 2017 semester. Check the Home page of this guide for more news on the progress of the project.

I am not affiliated with Millikin, is there a way for me to use the materials in the collection?

If you have a community or high school Staley Library card, you may use it to set up an online catalog account to order items for pick-up at circulation. For more on signing up for a community or high school Staley Library card, please see our website.
