Those that do not feel comfortable coming inside the building may use our request system, as accessed through Millikin Library Discovery, to order items for scheduled curbside pick-up/delivery. This process is outlined below.
Please note:
Instructions- Requesting Staley Library Items for Curbside Pick Up
Instructions- Requesting I-Share Items for Curbside Pick Up
1) When you want to request an item owned by Staley Library for pick-up, begin by either typing the title of the item into the Millikin Library Discovery search box on the library homepage and clicking "search,"
or, selecting the link "Start Your Research" on the right side of the screen, then clicking the link "Millikin's Library Catalog."
2) Type the title of the item you want (or do a keyword search by typing in a few words describing the topic you are researching) into the search box. Use the options on the right side of the search box to limit to "Library Catalog" to see only Millikin items. Click the search icon or hit "Enter."
3) In your results list, click on the title of the item you would like to request for pick-up.
4) If you have not already signed in, look for the "Get It" section and click "Sign in." Next, click on "Millikin Users" and log in to your Millikin Library Discovery account using your myMillikin username and password.
Note: alumni, community, retiree, and high school courtesy card holders must select the "Internal/Community Users" option instead, and will need to contact our circulation department to set up a username and password for account access the first time; these accounts will only access Millikin-owned material and will not work for I-Share requesting or off-campus article full text access.
5) On the item details screen, under "Get It," click on the "Request" link.
6) On the "Request" form, first, select Millikin as your "Pickup lnstitution" (listed under "My Institution," "Millikin University (MIL)- Decatur, IL.")
Next, write "Curbside Pickup" and your desired date and time in the "Comment" section of the request form. Please select a date and time that fall within our current hours.
Then click "Send Request."
7) Successful requests will display this message. Watch your email for any emails regarding cancelled requests should items not be available for some reason.
8) You can view your list of requests by clicking on your name in the upper right corner, then clicking "My Requests."
9) When your request has been filled, you will receive an automated email with the subject "On Hold Shelf."
You will be notified if we are unable to fulfill the curbside pickup date and time you chose.
Please arrive for your appointment at the parking lot or the book drop on the south side of the University Commons (lot is M6 on this map: https://millikin.edu/campus-life/public-safety/security/parking/parking-map) at your date and time, and call 217-424-6214 to let us know you have arrived. At that time, we will ask you to describe your vehicle (or clothing, if you are picking up on foot/bicycle), check-out your materials to you, email you a due date receipt, and let you know to expect a courier wearing identification shortly.

Our library staff will then email you to schedule a pickup date and time.
