So, you have found an article in a library database that looks interesting and now you want to read the entire article? Here's how you do it.
1. After clicking on the title in the results list, look through the record for a link that says "PDF Full Text," "HTML Full Text" or "View PDF." Any of these options will show you the entire article, which you can then download.
*HTML Full Text is often only the text of the article, while the PDF Full Text contains all of the charts, graphs, and images in the original article.
*A great option for saving your article for later is to use the email option. You can email the article to any email address and in most databases you can send an APA or MLA style citation as well.
2. If there is no link to the full text article, look for the "Find It" button.
3. After you click on the Find It button, you may be taken to a new window that will give you different options for getting the full text of the article. Or if there is only one option, it will redirect you to the full text article.
Option #1
Sometimes articles will be available electronically in another database (or multiple databases). Look for links under "Full text availability" and then click on the link and you'll be taken to the database where you can access the full text. Usually the link will take you directly to the article, but sometimes it takes you to a main website where you will have to search for the article by title a second time.
Option #2
If the library does not have electronic access to the article or own it in print, then you can request a digital copy through Interlibrary Loan.
If not already signed in, click on "Sign in" and log in with your Millikin username and password, then click "Request through Interlibrary Loan"... (Or, click the link that says "Request through Interlibrary Loan," and then login at the next screen...)
...and then scroll to the bottom of the request form and click "Submit request" (if you have never used this service before, you will need to fill out an account set-up form the first time you order an article or book chapter).
You will receive an email when your article is available to view in your ILLiad account.
If you already have the citation for an article, Staley Library can help you to find the full article.
1. Begin at the Library's homepage (https://www.millikin.edu/staley).
2. Click on the button labeled "Search Databases."
3. Scroll to the very bottom of the databases page and click the link "Already have a citation?"
4. Select "article," "book," or "journal," depending on your citation. Type in as much information you have about the article/book/journal. Then click "Submit."
5. A new window/tab will open that shows you the list of matching options Millikin Library Discovery found, along with any full text options.
6. If there are full text options, select one to access the full text. If there are no full text options, follow "Option #2" directions in the "Getting the Full Text of Articles" box on this guide to request through interlibrary loan.
